At the core of Optimistic Foundation are the practices of filmmaker and musician Dan Edelstyn and artist Hilary Powell. Our work has informed, documented and worked alongside each other for the past decade. Through our current project ‘Bank Job’ we have come together to create a platform to investigate and tackle urgent economic, philosophical and social issues of our time through anarchic, joyful cultural production. We bring the community into the heart of the production process, strengthen marginal voices and bring critical issues into mainstream debate through provocative cultural action. We operate out of our ‘rebel bank’ –HSCB (Hoe Street Central Bank) in Walthamstow working on a Bank Job that involves creating art, participatory action and a feature documentary film. We believe in the subversive, radical imagination, in the power of and indeed need for the surreal and comic in dark times - to open up possibilities of more just ways of organising and living when everyday life and democracy are corroded.
We are immersed in our Bank Job so to keep up to date with our work see www.bankjob.pictures and follow us on social media.
Another world is possible. Pessimism of the intellect. Optimism of the will.
